Commemorative bronze medal struck in 1817 upon the death of Marshal André Masséna, Duke of Rivoli and Prince of Essling, a distinguished military figure of the Revolution and the Empire. The obverse bears his name and titles: Masséna, Marshal of France, Prince of Essling, while the reverse recalls his major campaigns with the inscriptions RIVOLI, ZURICH, GENOA, ESSLING, together with his dates of birth in Nice and death in Paris.
