Silver tetradrachm struck under the reign of Lysimachos, king of Thrace, around 297–282 BC, at Magnesia ad Maeandrum (Asia Minor). The obverse features a deified portrait of Alexander the Great, recognizable by the ram’s horns, symbol of Zeus-Ammon. The reverse shows Athena seated, holding a Nike (Victory) and a shield, with the legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ (“of King Lysimachos”). This coin illustrates the use of Alexander’s image to legitimize the power of the Diadochi. With its remarkable artistic style, it reflects the cultural influences of the Hellenistic era.
