Description
5 Francs Coin – 1871, known as the “Camélinat” issue
Named after Zéphyrin Camélinat, Director of the Paris Mint during the Paris Commune. This coin was struck under exceptional circumstances, during the few weeks when the Commune—a revolutionary government—ruled the capital from March to May 1871.
It is identifiable by the trident mintmark, a symbol associated with Camélinat.
A rare historical testimony from this turbulent period, the coin shows signs of cleaning, which has altered its original patina.
