Obverse legend

AUDACIA FELIX

This medal commemorates the aeronautical achievement of the Montgolfier brothers, pioneers of ballooning, whose experiments led to the first hot-air balloon flights in 1783. Struck during the reign of Louis XVI, it celebrates a major scientific breakthrough that profoundly marked Enlightenment Europe. Our specimen is a restrike bearing the “CUIVRE” (copper) hallmark stamped on the edge.
