Antoninian of Otacilia Severa, silver coin minted in 248 for the secular games of Rome. Hippopotamus on the right on the reverse. The secular games of Rome were celebrated in Rome in 248 under Emperor Philip I. They marked the th anniversary of the foundation of Rome (753 BC). For several days, sacrifices, shows and games took place in the circuses and amphitheatres. The event was widely commemorated with coins depicting animals and the legend SAECVLARES AVGG.
