Description

Emperor Maximilian I of Austria married Mary of Burgundy, the sole heir of Charles the Bold, in 1477. Their union sealed the alliance between the Habsburgs and the wealthy Burgundian territories. Maximilian defended Mary’s lands against French ambitions. Together, they founded a powerful lineage that left a lasting mark on Europe. Their son, Philip the Handsome, would become the father of Charles V.
