The Carnutes were a powerful Gallic tribe located between the Seine and the Loire, with main centers at Cenabum (Orléans) and Autricum (Chartres). They played a major religious role, as their territory hosted the central druidic sanctuary of Gaul. In 52 BC, they sparked the general revolt against Rome by massacring Roman merchants in Cenabum. Julius Caesar crushed the uprising, and their submission marked a turning point in the Roman conquest of Gaul.

The Riedones, also called Redones or Rhedones, were a Gallic tribe located in the region of present-day Brittany, primarily around the modern city of Rennes, which takes its name from this people.

The Riedones were part of the Armorican confederation, an alliance of Gallic tribes in the region. They are mentioned by Julius Caesar in his accounts of the Gallic War. The Riedones were known for their skill in warfare and their participation in revolts against Roman domination. They supported Vercingetorix in his struggle against Caesar, particularly during the great revolt of 52 BC.

Their territory, situated between the Vilaine and Rance rivers, was strategic and fertile, which contributed to their regional influence. After the Roman conquest, the Riedones were integrated into the province of Gallia Lugdunensis and gradually adopted Roman culture and institutions.
