Description

Tiny ancient Greek coin struck in Rhegium, in the Bruttium region of southern Italy, circa 415–387 BC.

The obverse features the city’s iconic and beautifully rendered facing lion’s head, a powerful symbol of Rhegium that also appears on its renowned tetradrachms. Despite its small size, the design is expressive and artistically accomplished, reflecting the city’s strength and cultural identity.

On the reverse, the letters PH (an abbreviation of Rheginon, “of the Rhegians”) are set within an olive branch, a motif often associated with peace, prosperity, and links to Hellenic heritage.

Though modest in scale, this coin stands out for its striking imagery and historical significance.
