Silver drachm minted in Gortyn, Crete, around 98–94 BC. Head of Minos facing right on the obverse, and Apollo seated left on a rock on the reverse.
Minos is a legendary king of Crete in Greek mythology, son of Zeus and Europa. He is best known for commissioning the construction of the Labyrinth to contain the Minotaur, built by Daedalus. After his death, he became one of the judges of the Underworld alongside Rhadamanthus and Aeacus.
