Description
Allectus was the successor and assassin of Carausius, the rebel emperor of Britain. After Carausius’s murder in AD 293, he took control of the Romano-British realm. He continued the policy of independence from Rome for several years. His coins, often struck in London, proclaim his imperial legitimacy. Allectus was defeated and killed in 296 by the forces of Constantius Chlorus, restoring Roman authority over Britain.
