Publius Petronius Turpilianus served as a moneyer (triumvir monetalis) in Rome around 19 BC, during the reign of Augustus. His denarii are known for their varied and sometimes original types. His activity belongs to the transitional period between the late Republic and the Augustan Principate, when coinage also became an instrument of political communication. Turpilianus’ issues reflect this evolution, combining Republican tradition with the assertion of the new imperial regime.
