The 1000 franc banknote "FRANCE" type 1944 is a French banknote issued at the end of the Second World War. It was created for use during the liberation of France and symbolised the return of French authority. It was printed in the United States at the request of the Provisional Government of the French Republic led by Charles de Gaulle. It circulated briefly in 1944-1945, then was gradually replaced by notes issued by the Banque de France.
