Directoire un décime An 5 Paris

A decime of year 5 overprinted on a 2 decimes. Nice coinage on the reverse we can still see part of the word DECIME on the reverse.

The Directoire (1795-1799) was the regime put in place after the fall of Robespierre, led by five directors. It sought to stabilise the Revolution and avoid both a return to extreme repression and the re-establishment of the monarchy. Despite this, the period remained marked by major crises and ended with Bonaparte's coup d'état of 18 Brumaire (1799).
