Description
Feudal coinage for Languedoc, struck under Bertrand, Count of Toulouse. Rare silver obol, OTS in the field on the reverse.
Bertrand was Count of Toulouse from 1106 to 1112, succeeding his father Raymond IV, the famous leader of the First Crusade. He continued the family’s commitment in the East, departing for the Holy Land in 1108. Settled in Tripoli, he contributed to the consolidation of the County of Tripoli founded by his father. His rule in Toulouse was brief, as he prioritized his eastern ambitions. He died in 1112, leaving the Toulousain inheritance to his brother Alphonse Jourdain.
