Guillaume IV was Count of Toulouse from 1060 to 1088, heir to one of the most powerful principalities of the South. His reign was marked by the consolidation of Languedoc territories and by recurring conflicts with his neighbors, notably the Duke of Aquitaine. A protector of the Church, he supported several abbeys and reformed ecclesiastical domains. Married to Emma of Mortain, he ensured the continuity of the Toulousain dynasty. His rule prepared the political and cultural growth that the region would experience in the following century
