Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, Duke of Vendôme (1654–1712), was the grandson of Henry IV, a renowned Marshal of France, and commander-in-chief of the royal armies under Louis XIV. In 1702, he was in the midst of the Italian campaign during the War of the Spanish Succession. It was a significant year in his military career.
