The silver token struck in 1731 for the King’s secretaries is an honorary French medal, awarded to chancery officers under the Ancien Régime. On the reverse, an allegory shows a queen bee leading her swarm toward the sun, symbolizing the loyalty, order, and diligence of the secretaries in the king’s service. The sun represents the king himself. This token celebrates administrative fidelity and the efficient organization of the kingdom. It is also a fine example of 18th-century numismatic art, combining political symbolism with engraving finesse.
