The Société du Griffon in Lyon was a social and mutual aid society active in the 19th century, bringing together members of the Lyonnais bourgeoisie and merchants. Contrary to what its name might suggest, it was not an industrial enterprise but a social club. Its name directly refers to the Griffon district of Lyon (located near Place Tolozan and the slopes of the Croix-Rousse), an area historically associated with the silk trade and printing.
