Description

This is a 1 Birr silver coin (also known as a Thaler) struck for the Ethiopian Empire under Emperor Menelik II. It is dated EE 1889 (Ethiopian Era), corresponding to 1897 AD in the Western calendar, and bears the “A” mint mark for Paris. Its reverse prominently features the famous Crowned Lion of Judah (the symbol of the Solomonic dynasty).
