Obverse legend |
5 Gulden silver coin, 500/1000 fineness, struck by the Free City of Danzig in 1932. The obverse features the Krantor in Gdańsk with a docked ship.
The Krantor of Gdańsk is one of the most iconic landmarks of this port city located on the Baltic Sea, in northern Poland.
The word Krantor comes from the German “Kran” (crane) and “Tor” (gate), as it served both as:
a medieval port crane, and
a fortified city gate overlooking the Motława River.
