Emmanuel Pinto (1681-1773) was the 68th Grand Master of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem (Order of Malta), elected in 1741. During his reign, he strengthened the order’s sovereignty over the island of Malta and developed the economy, notably through the issuance of coins bearing his name. He is also known for founding the University of Malta in 1769.
