Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla (1753-1811) was a Mexican priest and revolutionary, considered the “Father of Mexico’s Independence.” On September 16, 1810, he launched the famous “Grito de Dolores”, a call for revolt against Spanish rule, marking the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence.
