Pierre Turin (1891-1968)
Pierre Turin (1891–1968) was one of the leading French medalists and engravers of the 20th century. A pupil of Frédéric de Vernon at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he quickly distinguished himself through the finesse and modernity of his style. Winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1920, he became renowned for works that combined classical tradition with Art Deco lines. His most celebrated creation remains the commemorative medal for the 1924 Paris Olympic Games, today considered a masterpiece of sporting medallic art. He also produced numerous coins, medals, and plaquettes for the State, institutions, and private collectors. His elegant compositions mark a turning point in the history of modern French engraving.
