He strengthened the authority of the bishopric by granting it privileges. Metz was a key city in the Holy Roman Empire, with significant religious and economic influence. The issuance of this denier illustrates the sharing of power between the Church (Thierry II) and the imperial sovereign (Henry II), a common phenomenon in the episcopal cities of the
