Ducaton struck for the Netherlands in Utrecht in 1793. This large silver coin, of high quality, is also known as the ‘Silver Rider’ (Cavalier d’argent) due to the mounted knight depicted on the obverse. Issued during the late 18th century under the Dutch Republic, the ducaton was primarily used for trade and valued for its substantial silver content. The ‘Silver Rider’ design symbolized military strength and national pride. The 1793 issue from the Utrecht mint is among the later examples before the Batavian Republic era began in 1795, making it a sought-after piece for collectors of pre-Napoleonic European coinage.
