Reverse legend

SEQVANOIOTVOS

Silver denarius or quinarius of the Gallic tribe of the Sequani, struck between 70 and 50 BC. Stylized head facing left on the obverse, and a boar on the reverse—a symbol of bravery and war. The Sequani, a people from eastern Gaul, inhabited the region corresponding to present-day Franche-Comté, with Vesontio (modern-day Besançon) as their main center. Their coinage reflects both Celtic influence and contact with the Roman world.
