Hicetas was tyrant of Syracuse from 287 to 278 BC, succeeding Agathocles in a context of strong political tensions. He sought to maintain his power in the face of internal rivalries and the ambitions of neighboring cities. His reign was marked by shifting alliances, notably with the Carthaginians. He was eventually overthrown by Pyrrhus of Epirus, ending his authority over Syracuse.
