Silver quarter gulden (.816) struck in 1816 for the colony of Demerara and Essequibo, a territory on the north coast of South America now corresponding to Guyana. This small colonial coin was issued during the reign of George III and bears witness to the British monetary organisation in the former Dutch possessions of the Guianas.
