Frederick Augustus III of Saxony (1750–1827), from the Albertine branch of the House of Wettin, reigned as Elector of Saxony from 1763 to 1806. He inherited the throne at the age of 13 upon the death of his father and ruled for a long period marked by rising European tensions at the end of the 18th century. In 1791, the date of the thaler you mention, he still held the title of “Elector of Saxony” within the Holy Roman Empire. It was only in 1806, with the dissolution of the Empire by Napoleon, that he became King of Saxony under the name Frederick Augustus I.
