New Zealand commercial token issued by the "Auckland Licensed Victuallers Association", an association of Auckland taverners and hoteliers. It commemorates the creation of the association on 4 April 1871, the date inscribed on the reverse of the coin. The tokens were minted in England a few years later, around 1874, for use in local trade at a time when small change was often in short supply in New Zealand.
