Pedigree : Collection de l'abbé Jacques Thilliez (12 novembre 2021) lot 111  The Moulin is a method of striking coins using a screw press, also known as a “balancier” or “moulin.” This technique, which is an innovation compared to older hand-striking methods, allows for the production of more uniform and detailed coins. The mechanism of the screw press works by using the force generated by the rotation of a large screw to apply pressure to a planchet (metal disc) placed between two dies (engraved matrices). This pressure imprints the designs of the dies onto the planchet, thus creating a coin.
