Superb and rare token, with a bust of Louis XIII on the obverse, struck for the royal occupation of Lorraine, Cour parlement de Metz. High quality The Court of Parliament of Metz, created in 1633, was a sovereign court of justice for the territories of the three bishoprics (Metz, Toul and Verdun) that came under the Empire. Conquered by Henry II in 1552, they were subsequently retained by France, and their definitive annexation to the kingdom was ratified by the Treaties of Westphalia in 1648.
